"He was like spreading them apart. I didn't know what was going on. I was confused."

Jane Doe #1 was the People's first witness called in the Mario Alexander case.  Jane Doe #1 testified on Thursday. She is subject to recall. Two and a half years ago, Jane Doe #1 moved with her mother from Humboldt County to another location in California.



She is currently 11 years old. As she walked into the courtroom, you could see how small and petite and looks much younger.

For those who have not followed this case, it took almost three years for this case to go to jury trial since the alleged molestations were reported. The alleged abuse started earlier.

Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads asked her some basic questions about where she lives, about the oath and telling the truth and then Jane Doe #1 identified Alexander who she called, "Mr. Mario."

Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2 met at a summer program. Jane Doe #2 is Alexander's former stepdaughter, the biological child of his ex, Julianna.

Alexander has two sons, one was a toddler at the time of the alleged incidents.

Jane Doe #1 said that Jane Doe #2 was always home when she was at "Mr. Mario's house."

When asked by Ms. Eads why she didn't want to go over to the Alexander home, Jane Doe #1 responded, "because Mr. Mario was touching me inappropriately."

Jane Doe #1 said that she doesn't remember the first time Alexander touched her inappropriately. She added that she "doesn't remember anytime Mr. Mario touched me."


Ms. Eads asked her about the incident in bunk bed. Jane Doe #1 said she she was sleeping in the top bunk in the "boys room."

"I was sleeping. Mr. Mario was in the room looking at me. I woke up and he walked out of the room."

Jane Doe #1 said before he walked out of the room, Alexander touched her knees. "He was like spreading them apart. I didn't know what was going on. I was confused."

The second incident was in a bedroom. Alexander's toddler was in the room. "I was reading a book. He had me lay down and he was rubbing my bottom." She could not remember if it was over or under her clothes.

Ms. Eads asked Jane Doe #1 if she remembers Alexander asking her, "if she liked it" and Jane Doe #1 said, "yes."
She said she doesn't know why she didn't tell him to stop.

Jane Doe #1 said she doesn't remember being in the living room or "snuggling" to watch a movie or sitting in "Mr. Mario's lap."

Jane Doe #1 said she was "nervous talking about it" so she did not tell adults. This was until she finally told her mom in 2016.

Jane Doe #1 said she does not remember "seeing Mr. Mario punish his daughter."

Ms. Eads asked her if her memory was better during the CAST interview, which was days after she told her mom, than it is now.

"How do you feel about testifying this morning," asked Ms. Eads.

"I'm nervous," said Jane Doe.

"Why are you nervous?" Ms. Eads asked.

"Because I have never done this before and I just feel uncomfortable."

Jane Doe #1 said that she and Jane Doe #2 talked about what happened before she told her mom.
