Thanks to Measure Z funding, HCSO was able to restore the CSO positions, freeing up deputies to address in progress calls

I reached out to HCSO PIO Samantha Karges about HCSO's Community Services Officers.

"We currently have four Community Services Officers, which are all funded thanks to Measure Z,"  said Ms. Karges. "These positions have been an incredible help, freeing up our deputies to address the in-progress calls, as well as become more proactive in policing."

"The CSO position was cut from the budget around 2011. Thanks to Measure Z, we were able to fill those positions in the 2015/2016 fiscal year."

"Community Services Officers take a huge burden off of our deputies. They handle burglaries and vandalisms that have no suspects, missing persons, runaway juveniles, and vehicle abatement. Another part of their job is community education, teaching educational programs like gun safety at local schools and participating in crime prevention education."

"We have heard the community’s growing concerns over the number of  abandoned vehicles in the Southern Humboldt area, and so this year we have been able to dedicate one CSO entirely to vehicle abatement in the Southern Humboldt area."
