Fortuna Police Officers apprehended a suspect who fled a traffic stop in the Campton Heights area this morning.
On August 7, 2018 around 11:30am, Fortuna Police officer made traffic stop on a vehicle after observing the driver run a stop sign at School and Rohnerville Road, in the Campton Heights area.
After the vehicle stopped, the officer smelled the odor of marijuana and asked the driver to step out of the vehicle for further investigation.
The driver then sped off at a high rate of speed into a residential neighborhood, stopped abruptly, and took off running away from the officer; jumping over fences and into neighboring back yards.
The suspect continued to run around the neighborhood jumping into backyards, and over fences while being seen throwing items away. He led officers on a nearly 30 minute foot chase around the area.
With the assistance of observant neighbors in the neighborhood, the suspect was located and taken into custody.
Robert M Zabel, 24, of Joliet Illinois was arrested and booked into Humboldt County Jail for the following offenses:
Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
Resisting Arrest
Evading a Police Officer
Possession of Concentrated Cannabis
Possession of Concentrated Cannabis for sales
