EPD is working on press release about Oceanview incident, details released will contain information that maintains integrity of investigation

Followed up this morning with Eureka Police Department. about Ocean View Cemetery last night. EPD will release a press release shortly.  Both Captains Stephens and O'Neill said it will contain information that can be released at this point to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

I commend the local departments and PIOS such as EPD, CHP,  HCSO for their fairness in releasing information to all media outlets simultaneously in sensitive cases such as homicide investigations. Information vetted by law enforcement is accurate and the integrity of the investigation makes a huge difference in prosecuting a case.

Last night at 9:07 p.m. there was a 911 call of a felony assault and Eureka Police Department responded.

Sgt. Cory Crnich, in a press briefing at the scene, said  a victim was located south of the mausoleum. The victim was deceased.

No details about age or gender or weapon were released last night. No suspect in custody last night. Sgt. Crnich said there was no reason to believe there was a threat to public safety. Suspect description was not released.

Humboldt County Coroner was at the scene.
