HCSO investigating a picture being circulated on Snapchat about a shooting in Mckinleyville. It is a hoax.

Supervisor Ryan Sundberg shared this information:

"The Sheriff has investigated a picture going around on Snapchat saying there is going to be a shooting in Mckinleyville. It is a Hoax, and was copied from back east. This is just in case anyone hears about this."

Around 8:53 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2018, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received numerous calls from concerned parents regarding a perceived threat made towards the McKinleyville High School.

The threat was regarding a Snapchat post made by a juvenile subject picturing numerous firearms.

 Early in the investigation, Deputies learned the threat was not directed towards McKinleyville High School and no MHS student was involved.

The Snapchat post was directed towards Monticello High School, which is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. Deputies contacted Albemarle County Police Department and were informed the threat had already been investigated and charges were pending towards the juvenile subject.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, along with the superintendent of the Northern Humboldt School District and the principal of the McKinleyville Hight School would like to reiterate there was no threat made towards the McKinleyville High School.

The Humboldt County Sheriffs Office acted quickly to address the alleged threat and takes these types of social media threats seriously. Ensuring the safety of all students and community members alike remains our number one priority.
