Potential jurors to be questioned about pre trial publicity and sexual abuse before Chad Smith's jury trial starts

Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads and Deputy Public Defender Joann Carter met with Judge Dale Reinholtsen yestetday and today to go over scheduling, expert witness availability, juror questionnaires and motions in limine filed by both the People and the defense.

Many jurors have already filled out the second questionnaire and starting tomorrow, they will be questioned  individually and privately by both attorneys regarding pre trial publicity and regarding any issues about sexual abuse. Other jurors will be filling out hardship questionnaires.

DA Investigator Martin Perrone's will testify for one of those motions in limine.

People have an expert scheduled for February 7 and Ms. Eads is checking to see if he is available on other dates.

One day, the court will be "dark" meaning not in session is February 9. This was a request by Ms. Carter. While Ms. Eads did not mention the case by name, she spoke about a special set for a preliminary hearing that is scheduled before a Visiting Judge. That case is John Beideman, scheduled for February 15. If that proceeds, Ms. Eads would be unavailable on that day.
