Alleged assault on California street, suspect not in custody

"The Eureka Police Department is investigating an assault that occurred on January 20, 2018 around 11:19 p.m. near the 2100 block of California St.  The male victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of a head injury.  The male has been released from the hospital.  No suspects were on scene at the time police arrived.  The suspect description has been described several different ways by the victim and witnesses.  Still under investigation, and nothing further to report at this time."



EPD responded to a call of an alleged assault on California street before midnight. Victim was transported to the hospital. Injuries appear to be from blunt force trauma.


The initial information that the victim maybe in coma and may be flown out of the area was from information on scene.

Suspect is not in custody, at large. EPD collecting evidence on scene.
