How do you not take "I want to kill her" and "I'm going to fuck you up" seriously?

**There is no restriction on photos of the judge, attorneys, DA investigator and the only person visible in the audience on Zoom is me**

**This is court testimony about alleged violent crimes and threats and there are quotes and graphic language. If you chose to read the post; that is your choice. **

Day 4 of the preliminary hearing in terroristic and criminal threat suspect Daryl Jones' case started after Humboldt Superior Court Assistant Presiding Judge Timothy Canning, Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees and Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Meagan O'Connell all dealt with morning calendars.

It did not start at 9:30 as we were waiting for Ms. O'Connell. At 9:47 a.m. the bailiff said Ms. O'Connell will be at least another half an hour. 9:55 p.m. The jury came back with a verdict. Hearing finally started at 11:02.

Today's testimony will be mostly Arcata Police Department officers. Except for one HCSO deputy, all  other testimony today was from APD.

LOCO's Ryan Burns was there since the morning. Ryan Hutson covering it for RHBB came in after 11:30, few minutes before lunch. No other media is there, again today.

More of the same type of threats, responses by the caller. Yesterday, the weakest testimony was by Fortuna Police Detective Thomas MacLeod. Fortuna Police Officer Brian Sancho did a better job of testifying than MacLeod. APD did an excellent job testifying yesterday. Today, after APD Officer Jayme Lewallen's testimony, these two officers need to do a better prep before testifying and tighten up their follow up and what they write in reports. While Mr. Rees is doing a good job of going through the incidents related to 35 counts, these two officers so far are giving the defense a chance to argue about the investigation. The hearing isn't over.

Today, two reporting parties at Arcata Best Western and Humboldt Brews thinking this was a prank and Arcata High Schools's Tahnia Campbell not wanting "to incite and disrupt the school day" does not help and that attitude did not help law enforcement responding. Fortuna had a better response than those mentioned at Arcata locations today.

How do you not take "I want to kill her" and "I'm going to fuck you up" seriously?

In the afternoon, APD Lt. Keith Altizer is testifying about threats to Cafe Phoenix and Big Blue Cafe.

KAEF here at 1:40. LOCO is not here in the afternoon.

Daryl Jones wanted people to be afraid. He also wanted help and thought that calling schools with threats would get him that result? This is only one key part of testimony by Arcata Police Detective Celeste Villarreal's testimony today. She formerly worked for Eureka Police Department and took the stand at the end of the day today. Her testimony covered what led to identifying Daryl Jones as a suspect, his arrest, his confession and how search warrants, cell phone extraction led to connecting him to the months of terror, school lockdowns and threatening phone calls to individuals and businesses. Jones was identified in court by Villarreal.

Jones has a cell phone with a 580 area code. He used TextNow to generate several 707 area code numbers. Cell phone extraction showed thousands of searches for Eureka, Arcata and Humboldt County. I will add numbers for each when I add more details.

She will be back on the stand tomorrow and based on what happened in court today, there will be a lengthy cross examination. A lot happened today and I take hours of notes. Most of the incidents today have to do with various incidents in Arcata. More testimony about similar depraved threats.

Court starts early again tomorrow and another long day. Based on the complaint and testimony so far, tomorrow should be another APD day.

I will update today's post when I can. Tomorrow, I will do live updates and a summary and update later. I have details no one else does, I am the only one in court every day since court starts and ends for the day. I am  pushing myself all day, all night, day after day for 12 years, which I have done and for free. This preliminary may not even conclude tomorrow. So it is your choice to check the posts  until they are completed. I may have to wait until the weekend because it will take me a day each just to type Tuesday and Wednesday testimony.

The alleged victims in this case deserve that I properly write all the details. 35 counts with the defense objecting every second repeatedly after several objections have been overruled and dragging out cross examination uneccesarily adding days and hours to a hearing. This is not a mini trial.
