In September, I did a post on California Attorney General Rob Bonta suing the LA County Sheriff and County Correctional Health Services "over unconstitutional and inhumane conditions at Los Angeles County jails."
In October 2025, a federal lawsuit was filed in the Central District of California by Los Angeles Attorney Brian Dunn, managing partner who has advocated for victims of police misconduct in the state of California.
Mr. Dunn filed this lawsuit on behalf of 38 current and former women inmates at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. Defendants include LA County and LA Sheriff Robert Luna.
**There are graphic details about allegations from a lawsuit and court documents. It is your choice to read beyond this disclaimer**
The lawsuit alleges male deputies watched inmates shower, sexually harassed them, groped them and commented on their appearance and retaliated when the alleged abuses were reported.
The lawsuit alleges male guards watching nude female inmates in the showers from an area known as the "cop shop."
The lawsuit claims deputies are accused of intentionally setting water temperatures to near-scalding levels to force inmates to "which forces the female inmates taking showers to move hurriedly and squirm erratically” and “often results in the female inmates’ breasts jiggling and wiggling demonstrably in full view of the male correctional officers in the adjacent "cop shop."
The lawsuit alleges male guards intentionally pressed their crotches against the hands of handcuffed inmates and "fondled the inmates’ hips, buttocks, and bodies in a sexual manner" while moving them from one location to another.
It was only reported by the Los Angeles Times yesterday and it took them two months to cover this lawsuit?
This isn't the first lawsuit about Lynwood.
Amador v. Baca was a class action lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the way strip searches at the Century Regional Detention Facility. In 2017, the court found the LASD’s search practices were unconstitutional. The parties reached a settlement which was approved by the Court on July 20, 2020.
