Eureka Police Department officers have done similar acts of kindness over the years. They do it privately and I respected their wish not to publicize what comes from their heart. This post is about the Redwood Washington Police Department.
"On December 27, 2025, officers responded to a shoplift in progress at Target. A man was detained outside the store with stolen clothing and was found to have an outstanding warrant for theft.
During the contact, the man told officers he was dealing with a painful hand infection and that his prescribed antibiotics had been stolen. He also explained that he is homeless, living in the cold, and had attempted to take a jacket and snow pants to stay warm.
Redmond WA Fire medics were called to the scene, assessed his injury, and transported him to the hospital for treatment. Knowing he would likely be released back into cold conditions, officers used a BlueBridge Alliance card to purchase the jacket and snow pants for him before transport.
While officers made it clear that theft is still illegal and the case will proceed in court, this moment highlights an important balance of holding people accountable and recognizing their immediate human needs. " Redwood Washington Police Department
