Courthouse, courts open July 3, most County offices closed

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors yesterday approved the closure of many public-facing county offices on Monday, July 3. This closure is in addition to the previously scheduled July 4 closure.

The Humboldt County Superior Court and county courthouse will remain open to the public as will county departments providing essential services including the Department of Health & Human Services, Juvenile Hall, and some law enforcement functions.

The purpose of the Board’s decision to close county offices to the public is to allow county staff the option to take a voluntary furlough day since the 4th of July holiday falls on a Tuesday. Voluntary furloughs act as a cost-saving measure and can help reduce the county’s budget deficit, estimated to be $15.5 million in fiscal year 2022-23. While furloughs are an option for staff on Monday, July 3, they are not required.

County of Humboldt and Humboldt County Superior Court offices will be closed to the public on Tuesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. As always, essential public safety services will remain fully operational. The county’s regular business hours will resume on Wednesday, July 5.
