This red car had been parked in the same spot in the Sacred Heart Church parking lot on 20th and Myrtle. Today was the third day and now more people were in the car with more belongings next to it. I decided to call HCSO dispatch. I gave the location, the description and was about to give the license number when dispatch said is it and read the exact number. HCSO deputies had already been called and were out there at 4:30 a.m. this morning. The car occupants did not leave. HCSO was great and followed up. There is only so much law enforcement can do.
Both calls seem to have come from concerned citizens. This is private property and HCSO can only do so much. The car was still there Tuesday morning but finally gone in the afternoon.
It does not look like the church staff or priests are bothered because Patrick Button, the guy in the picture below, did the same thing and just hung around in the parking lot. If the guy and car is still there tomorrow and anything happens, it certainly is not the fault of HCSO or those of us who are proactive. After what happened to Fr. Eric Freed, I'd rather be cautious than ignore a loiterer.
The guy pictured above is Patrick Button. There are 53 search results but some are duplicate listings in the e court system. I did two posts earlier in April where HCSO deputies respond twice at a house across the church. The second time Sgt. Krystle Arminio told him specifically not to come back. Since then, Button has trespassed and come back despite warnings from the family. The pictures above are from a security system because neighbors and others like me who walk by the area frequently are watching out and alerting the family. Yesterday, Button was screaming obscenities and walking up and down Myrtle Avenue and was parked at Humboldt. I almost called HCSO yesterday because Button walked towards me in a threatening manner, had a container of gas. He knows who I am from my coverage the last time he was in the area.
Button who had allegedly broken the garage door had also allegedly started a fire in the house where HCSO deputies had to respond twice.
Criminals, trespassers and suspicious individuals have become bold in California where they just ignore law enforcement. These two alone are wasting law enforcement resources repeatedly. EPD and HCSO are short staffed and the men and women work hard and do their best in challenging circumstances. California laws and slap on the wrist consequences from legislature does not keep the public safe.
HCSO dispatch and the deputies were great in their follow up with both incidents which they had to respond to multiple times.
6/17: Button was arrested by APD on a bench warrant on drug, vandalism, DUI, driving on a suspended license charges.
