Suspect on 5th yesterday has a gun violence restraining order and two open cases from December and this month

(January 26 arrest)

(January 7  arrest)

On January 26, there was a large Eureka Police Department presence on 5th Street in Eureka for a warrant suspect who was eventually taken into custody. That was James Albert Leach Jr. in the standoff with EPD. Request has been made for January 13 booking photo.

The jail log shows Leach was booked by EPD on an arrest warrant at 4:45 p.m. for two counts of PC 30605 possession of an assault weapon, PC 12022.5 (a) personal use of a firearm during a felony and PC 459/461(a) burglary. Bail is $55,000.

The jail log references one of Leach's current 2023 cases which I reported on earlier this month. EPD Assistant Police Chief Brian Stephens confirmed the warrant is for one of the current cases already filed in Humboldt Superior Court.

On January 13, I reported on Leach who currently has a gun restraining violence order requested by EPD and granted for two years. Leach is not allowed to have any firearms.

He also has two separate cases, one from a HCSO incident in December 2022 and one from an incident in January 2023. After his January 7 arrest, Leach posted bond. Arraignment in those two cases is currently scheduled for February 17. Leach posted bond on 1/27 for this arrest.

I have a copy of the search  warrant. Leach owns two Toyotas.

I have complaints and more details in my previous post. I have spoken with both victims in both cases.  Based on details about what led to the HCSO incident directly from one of the alleged victims Ms. Allison Jackson,  information from the alleged victims in the January 7 EPD case and now this standoff yesterday, as long as Leach can post bail, the community is in danger.

Leach's father passed away and since then those who know him, including the alleged victims, have seen him spiral. Leach lives in Eureka at a house previously belonging to his father.
