Judge Kelly Neel was scheduled to meet with Ms. Andrea Sullivan and Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer at 9:15 on October 26. There was no access to view that meeting if it occurred, although livestream was on.
Jurors for the Demetrius Coleman trial were asked to be there at 10 a.m. The first witness is DA Investigator Ryan Hill and minutes are being wasted interviewing him on his assistance and obtaining the surveillance video from 81 Monument Road. There was an approximate two hour discrepancy in the video. While some of Investigator Hill's testimony is neccessary, it could have been covered by testimony of other witnesses. The questions by the prosecution should be focused and not repetitive. The witnesses for this trial have been presented in the most disorganized order I have seen at any jury trial and quite a few have contributed nothing relevant.
We did not need to see the photo of 81 Monument Road for the nth time. We did not need to see the video of Johnny Renfro exiting the blue Jeep Liberty for the nth time. How exactly is each camera's location relevant to proving it was Demetrius Coleman who shot Johnny Renfro? This has been a problem throughout the People's presentation. A lot of time being wasted. Why couldn't Investigator Hill have been there on Friday? Court broke early for lunch and ended early. If we are going to have all day trials, unless it is an expert witness or law enforcement, other witnesses need to be there when called and respect jurors' time and court schedules.
We have now wasted an hour with Investigator Hill and his testimony. Going over the video of the shooting with pauses and him describing what he sees. His opinion on what he believes or "it appears" is not fact. Jurors can watch the video for themselves. How does this prove Coleman shot Renfro?
Does Ms. Schaffer think that if she shows the video of the shooting several times and puts on numerous witnesses saying there was a blue Jeep Liberty and a green Honda on Monument Road that evening that it is proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Coleman killed Renfro? So far, we know Renfro was on Monument Road that evening, exited his blue Jeep Liberty and was shot by someone in a green Honda.
10:38 a.m. Now, once again, there are computer issues so court is on a short break. Don't know if the tech issues are because of the People or Court IT but it is happening a lot with the People's presentation.
