Preliminary hearing for GOP vandalism suspect Michael Valls continued to September

GOP office vandalism suspect Michael Valls' preliminary hearing scheduled for today was continued to September 1. He wants to be personally present.

Valls is charged with second degree burglary, vandalism of the local GOP office and two counts of resisting/obstructing a police officer.

Judge Kaleb Cockrum said the only courtroom available was for appearance via Zoom or telephone appearance so he granted the defense motion to continue the hearing.

Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke appeared for Valls. He has a 977 waiver of personal appearance on file. Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees appeared for the People. People have one witness. Time estimate by the People was 30 minutes. Judge Cockrum set aside 1 hour, 15 minutes to allow for ample time for cross examination by defense.
