Christina Higgins allegedly left a year and half baby boy alone in an apartment where there was a fire

Christina Higgins was arraigned on 6/30/20 on her most recent arrest. She is charged with one count of PC 273 (a) (a), child abuse/endangerment with great bodily injury.

On July 1, she had an OR/bail hearing. Appearing in a blue jumpsuit, with no makeup, the jail conference lighting was not conducive to the glam of her booking photo, Higgins took full advantage of Zoom to tear up on cue.

The inmates these days are fully aware they are on You Tube and frequent offenders think they are Zoom stars on local court TV.

Deputy Public Defender David Celli  submitted on Probation's reccomendation for supervised release.

Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads told Judge Christopher Wilson, "The People have concerns about the underlying criminal conduct. Higgins left her "year and half old baby boy alone in the residence." There were waffles in the oven. There was a fire. A neighbor who heard the smoke detector going off "for 15 to 20 minutes", entered the apartment and rescued the child.

Higgins interrupted Ms. Eads, " I was being chased out of my house."

"Ms. Higgins don't talk," said Mr. Celli.

Ms. Eads continued, "I understand Ms. Higgins has a version where essentially she was fleeing from another individual. That version has not been confirmed." The history of children had been reviewed. There were  prior incidents with Higgins leaving children alone.

Ms. Eads said, if the Court was going to follow Probation's reccomendation of supervised release, then the Court order Higgins to stay away from John Doe.

Mr. Celli spoke privately with Higgins. He informed the Court that the baby boy was in protective custody.

"If the Court releases her and orders no contact, we can revisit the issue and put it on calendar if CWS decides reunification is in the best interest."

Judge Wilson ordered Higgins to be placed on supervised release and ordered her to have no contact with "the alleged victim John Doe unless otherwise authorized by the Dependency Court or a social worker."

Higgins waived time. Priminary hearing for July 13 was vacated and reset for September 10.
