Certification of competency was scheduled for attempted murder suspect Hugo Parral-Aguirre on June 11; continued to June 16 and continued to this morning. Criminal proceedings were reinstated today as both the People and defense stipulated to the State Department report.
Aguirre is charged with attempted murder of HCSO Deputy Rosalie Freixas; attempted murder of Carol Fuentes; false imprisonment of Courtney Schlapicohl and assault with a firearm on HCSO Sgt. Greg Musson.
Deputy Luke Bernthal appeared for the People. Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke appeared on the case today. She said the case will be going to Ms. Meagan O'Connell.
Time was not waived. Trial confirmation is on July 8; jury trial is scheduled on August 17.
Aguirre has gained weight. Mr. Carlos Santana interpreted for him via Zoom.
