Pursuant to Gov. Code 27491, Coroner's office is able to release names of three decedents who tested positive for COVID 19
The County and the Coroner’s Office have received several inquiries and a Public Records Act Request for identifying information about those who tested positive for COVID-19 prior to their deaths.
Pursuant to Gov. Code 27491, there are some instances in which a decedent is required to be reported to the Coroner’s Office. After conferring with counsel, the Coroner’s Office is able to disclose the requested information for three cases reported to our agency. The fourth case was not reported to the Coroner’s Office and therefore no public record exists.
Decedents reported to the Coroner’s Office who tested positive for COVID-19 prior to their deaths:
Ida Newell, 97 from Eureka R-101-20
Robert Berman, 96 from Eureka R-102-20
Kathleen Cataldi, 101 from Eureka R-111-20
