Jacquelyn Bradley was "in a state of psychosis" when she broke into an EPD officer's house

Jacquelyn Bradley had an OR/bail hearing scheduled this afternoon. Judge Christopher Wilson continued the hearing to June 18. Bradley's case was referred for a supervised release report.

Bradley has three cases. One was a 2019 burglary case after she allegedly broke into an EPD officer's house. Judge Wilson said bail for that case is $120,000. Charges for her other 2019 case is driving with a suspended/revoked  license. Charge for her 2018 case is alleged violation of parole.

Criminal proceedings were reinstated on June 11. Ms. Andrea Sullivan is Bradley's attorney requested that
Bradley be released to an inpatient recovery program and the preliminary hearing for next week be vacated. The Waterfront recovery is "close to accepting" Bradley but there have beensome "hitches due to the coronavirus."

While Bradley was at Napa State Hospital, she was diagnosed as having a drug dependency that caused drug psychosis. After her restoration to competency, Ms. Sullivan said Bradley "should be in treatment rather than jail pending the outcome of this case."

Bradley failed to appear for court twice. Once she called Ms. Sullivan; the other time she went and turned herself over to law enforcement.

Deputy District Attorney Jessica Acosta is the prosecutor for this case. The alleged victim is Sgt. Eddie Wilson. His name is in the complaint filed. Today, his name was stated on record because he had indicated he wanted to appear via Zoom and state his opposition to Bradley's release. He was not on Zoom. Ms. Acosta said he had worked the night shift and had said he may not make the Zoom appearance.

Ms. Acosta said the People object to Bradley's release because she is a flight risk and both the People and Sgt. Wilson object to Bradley's release for public safety.

"Ms. Bradley went into Sgt. Wilson's house, armed herself with knives, while Sgt. Wilson was in his house with his children."

Judge Wilson said, "Ms. Bradley was in a state of psychosis at the time of the incident."

6/18 update: Both attorneys summarized their arguments for Judge Lawrence Killoran. Probation recommended Bradley not be released. For public safety reasons, Judge Killoran denied supervised release.

Preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 23. Ms. Sullivan said that it will be very hard for the People to prove requisite intent at preliminary hearing.  Mental health diversion for Bradley was a better option.
