Students from all boys Catholic school wearing MAGA hats mock Native American elder

Students from an all boys Catholic high school in Kentucky mocked, jeered a Native American elder.

One teen stood directly in front of and stared at Nathan Phillips, an elder from Omaha, as he sang an intertribal song.

Parents and chaperones with the boys stood by and did nothing to intervene.

The boys were in Washington, D. C to attend the 2019 March on Life. This event took place at the same time as The Indigenous Peoples March.

"When I was there singing, I heard them saying 'Build that wall, build that wall,"' Phillips said, as he wiped away tears in a video posted on Instagram. "This is indigenous lands. We're not supposed to have walls here. We never did."

Later, a joint statement was issued by the Diocese of Covington and Covington Catholic High issued a joint statement:

"We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general, Jan. 18, after the March for Life, in Washington, D.C. We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips. This behavior is opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.

The matter is being investigated and we will take appropriate action, up to and including expulsion.

We know this incident also has tainted the entire witness of the March for Life and express our most sincere apologies to all those who attended the March and all those who support the pro-life movement."

Updates:

According to an article in the Independent, "The mother of a boy filmed harassing a Native American man along with his friends at a rally in Washington DC has blamed “black Muslims” for the confrontation, without providing any evidence for the claim."

This is what Fox News posted.

The New York Times had a balanced piece with interviews from all three groups.

    1. Actually, it doesn't tell the rest of the story. Anyone can post videos, we have yet to see a neutral or complete video. Even in the Fox News article, regardless of what was being said to them, the students engaged the other activists. They had a choice not to do that; they didn't. They could have focused on why they were there which is the March for Life. Instead, they escalated the situation.

    2. Now this statement from the student pictured above tells his side of the story.
