Two years probation for child porn conviction

 

Patrick Payton was charged with possession of child porn. He negotiated a plea for 2 years probation and was sentenced on 3/14 by Retired Judge John Feeney. Deputy District Attorney Jessica Watson appeared on the case for the People on 3/14. Payton hired Mr. Manny Daskal.

The conditional plea for no additional jail time was agreed upon by Judge Feeney in February. Deputy DA Luke Bernthal who appeared on the case that day asked for an open plea. Feeney decided not to listen to the DA. Last year, Deputy DA Whitney Timm appeared on the case in an intervention with Judge Kelly Neel. There was no deal.

If you are a local with Humboldt connections, can hire a private attorney and can get a Retired judge or the right current judge who is open to a slap on the wrist and get an inexperienced Deputy DA like Watson who is more chumsy with defense attorneys at sentencing; possession of child porn is no big deal in Humboldt. Watson is the spoiler candidate who the Humboldt criminal justice insiders were pushing to be judge.
