Kreis out, Cockrum in, former Deputy Counsel and County face reality and reach a tentative settlement agreement

The County proposing to settle another lawsuit. No surprise for anyone who has been paying attention for the past two decades on the legal costs and settlements incurred by the County by poor BOS decisions and paid for the County. Expect more out of your pocket since two of the dum dum incumbent Supervisors have another term.

I have been regularly covering the lawsuit filed by the County of Humboldt against former Deputy County Counsel Cathie Childs. Since my last post, Judge Gregory Kreis no longer hearing the case. Judge Kaleb Cockrum presided over the 3/8/24 hearing.

The demurrer was already continued by stipulation from 2/16 demurrer to 3/8/24. It was continued again to 3/22. Status of tentative settlement agreement is scheduled for the same day.

The other local media, as usual, did their once in a blue moon random court coverage. After this post, you may see LOCO and TS follow up as usual hours or days later. LOCO may not given what was reported in my last post from court documents. It wasn't a "scoop" or "investigative reporting" on a lawsuit from the other local media and it was a dumb move on both LOCO and Childs' part. She shouldn't have listened to her former attorney Cyndy Day Wilson who runs to TS and LOCO and did not do Childs any favors on this case with the rulings in this case or  in Wilson's own case. There is a reason they did not go to the one local media whose court coverage is regular, knows the law, and is read and trusted by people.

3/8 court minutes:

3/22: Demurrer status of tentative settlement agreement continued to 4/19.
