Why is a Sonoma County activist interested in Humboldt and targeting the same Councilmembers as recently failed candidate Roy Gomez?

(Roy Gomez's Facebook)

About half an hour ago, Sonoma County activist Adina Flores whose bio includes working at the Sonoma County Gazette sent an email to Eureka Mayor Kim Bergel, Eureka City Councilmembers and some local media. It is a very lengthy email and I am including some screenshots. Ms. Flores links various articles, including one of mine.

Former Humboldt County agitator Renee Saucedo is no longer in Humboldt County. Ms. Flores' is raising some issues brought up by Roy Gomez? I have contacted the City of Eureka Assistant Manager Pam Powell as well as Mayor Bergel and Eureka Councilmembers about the email and cced City Attorney Autum Luna and City Manager Miles Slattery.

Ms. Powell responded, "The City received two PRA requests from Adina Flores, one that we have responded to and the other one is in process.  Her email does indicate that she will be at the next Council meeting, so perhaps we will learn more then."

I also heard from Eureka Councilmember Leslie Castellano. "These PRA requests are the first I have heard from her (and an email sent earlier today). In the email, she does cite Roy Gomez, so I could infer that they have been in contact with one another, though that has not been corroborated."

Councilmember Castellano found the same website I did. "I did a quick google search and did find this website: adinafloresfacts.com (I don’t know who built the website) I am not sure why she is interested in Humboldt County."

Councilmember Contreras-DeLoach responded, "Re: Adina Flores email to the council, it is similar in tone to the Gomez’s claims and she makes reference to the Gomez’s multiple times in her extensive email. I am wondering if it is connected. Ms.Flores seems to indicate she had plans to attend a council meeting so perhaps we will learn more then."

"As for Councilmember Fernandez’s home purchase from a former local activist, I see nothing strange or untoward about such a transaction. This is a small community and it’s common to find out about jobs, housing etc..through acquaintances or friends of friends. We ourselves purchased our home from people I had long known through church and the foster care community. "

"I’ll admit I am not terribly interested in the supposed personal philosophical beliefs of my fellow council members and far more interested in their job performance. I have worked with Leslie, Kati and Mario for over a year now and though we don’t always agree, I have respect for each of them and their good intentions."

Councilmember Fernandez responded, "Genuinely, I don't know the board or staff of the Ink People--let alone know Patrick Cleary--so I needed to inquire about how to best respond to what I felt was a broad request for information given that I may have contact with people in our community not knowing who their employer may be. As with Humboldt Grassroots, I have written an article or two for them and discussed community organizing with them, but I'm far from a leader given that there's no centralized leadership (Hell, if you look at any of the paperwork for HGR you'll see it was founded before I moved to Humboldt let alone I'm absent from any of it's administrative bureaucracy)."

"City staff is searching my city email to comply with the request, but at the moment and to the best of my ability I don't have any communications regarding City of Eureka business in my personal accounts or devices to the effect of the request."

"While I don't know the school board members or employees referenced, I do know Renee Saucedo in her capacity within the Labor Movement in Humboldt and did, in fact, purchase my current home from her through the standard process with the help of Humboldt Premier Priorities in 2020."

"Renee Saucedo is a commendable advocate both in the community and her place of work particularly for underrepresented and undocumented workers. To drive this level of scrutiny from a self-aggrandizing self-proclaimed journalist means--to some effect-- Ms. Saucedo is having an impact in Sonoma County."

"As for the nature of the request, it feels like a specious attempt to conflate political beliefs with conspiracy. "

I also contacted Ms. Flores with the question I ask in the title of the post. She responded, "I am a former contributor for The California Globe, and my research overlaps throughout the state."

Bragging about writing for The Globe isn't helping Ms. Flores' credibility. Since this post, I have been contacted by conservative and liberal readers sending me various links  about The Globe and calling it "unreliable" and "fake news."

This is from one reader who is not liberal. "I saw your story on that lady from California Globe. Wikipedia has a whole page dedicated to pages that are reliable to blacklisted and gives reasons. California Globe is one that is listed as "unreliable."

I do not know Ms. Flores, I have included some information about her, including a Adina Flores fact site. The information about a restraining order against her fiance granted to Sonoma County which was covered by other sources including the Press Democrat.

Other claims made on this anonymous website about Flores have not been verified. Readers should not believe them anymore than majority of the unsubstantiated online anonymous comments made in the Humboldt cyber cesspool.

Adina Flores' own Facebook page and comments on it, including the ones on the Mario G. Fernandez post are quite revealing about her views, her agenda and company she keeps.

Roy Gomez sent me a response on 3/28.

Roy Gomez statement:

"Just for the record, I do not know Adina Flores. I’ve never met her, spoke with her nor do I follow her on social media. A friend did send me a post she recently made where she mentioned G. Mario Fernandez and included my wife’s statements that mentioned my name in the Lost Coast Outpost. I checked her page out and it seems as though she is connecting dots on who may be affiliated with certain people and organizations, but that’s what good investigative citizens, activists and journalists do. It appears that she may have struck a nerve here and hopefully this type of activity helps public officials realize the importance of transparency and accountability.  As most people know, we have been sounding the alarm about certain affiliated Councilmembers who believe in dismantling capitalism, abolishing the police and have organized anarchist groups that advocate for violence online.  We would be just as alarmed if we discovered one or more of our City Council members was involved or an organizer for the KKK and failed to disclose this as a candidate. It my civic duty as a community member and father of three children to expose these undemocratic allegiances and those who are in leadership position who promote violence.  I certainly do not enjoy being in this position, but I love my children and this community that much. Thank you."

Adina Flores and her minions' attacks are not worth wasting my time.
