Jose Antonio Cruz Jr aka Jose Cruz was arrested yesterday by HCSO on a warrant. He has various aliases and e court does not list date of birth and the full name for each case. The booking photo is from the 8/22 arrest which matches the charges and warrant issued in a 2023 case. Another 20 year old arrested for violent crimes.
There is an arrest warrant issued in a 2023 case on 8/21 with a slightly different variation of the name which includes two counts of PC 422 criminal threats, three counts of PC 207 (a) kidnapping, four counts of PC 273.5 (a) corporal injury on spouse or cohabitant , PC 236 false imprisonment, PC 243 (e) (1) domestic battery and PC 594 (b) (1). Arraignment was originally scheduled in this case for 9/13. Charges were amended on 8/18 and now include 12 counts.
There is trial confirmation in another 2023 case on 9/13 which has one count of PC 273.5 (a) corporal injury on spouse or cohabitant and one count of PC 236 false imprisonment. In that case, he is represented by Deputy Public Defender David Nims.
9/6: Since my last post, there were other dates scheduled. Both 9/7 and 9/13 dates were vacated. On 9/6, there was confirmation of counsel. Mr. Mario Tafur hired instead of Public Defender. Hearings continued to allow Mr. Tafur to appear in person for substitution of attorney. Next court date is 9/20.
9/20: Request by defense to continue preliminary hearing in kidnap case to 10/24 granted by Judge Kaleb Cockrum. Trial setting in the domestic violence case scheduled for the same day.
9/25: Defense motion for bail denied on by Judge Kelly Neel.
10/24: Defense motion to continue preliminary hearing in kidnapping case granted by Judge Joyce Hinrichs; rescheduled for 12/18. Trial setting in domestic violence case continued for the same date.
12/18: In kidnapping case, defense motion to continue preliminary hearing granted. New date is 2/6/24. Time estimate 4 hours. In domestic violence case, motion to continue trial setting granted. This hearing also scheduled for 2/6/24.
2/6/24: Preliminary hearing in one 2023 case continued to 3/28 by defense due to new discovery. 4 hour time estimate. Trial setting in the domestic violence case continued to 3/28.
