"We need to be able to come to work and not feel like we are the enemy in somebody's story" said Jim Husdey. He is the senior accountant at the Humboldt County Auditor's Office.
Many of the public comment and comments against the Auditor Controller for months and today has been from people either employed by the County or dependent on County for their income.
The arrogance to be defensive, indigant and surprised because the public was told things the County should have been transparent with from the beginning is from people who need to get a clue about who pays their salaries and whose money is being spent.
Some department heads and employees railing at Karen Paz Dominguez should look at their own behavior during the BOS meeting today.
Anyone at the County, getting funds from the County; this is not your money. It is the taxpayers. Take responsibility and stop blaming one woman and one office. Do you want to be reminded that DHHS and CWS had a state lawsuit unrelated to the Auditor Controller's Office.
I agree that the Auditor Controller needs to provide documentation. The BOS agreed but they get to see it before the Auditor Controller shares with the public. Why? Do we get to see exactly what was submitted by the Auditor Controller.
I do my own research. The benefit of that is coming across original news and facts to follow up on not dictated by someone's agenda. When I link my previous posts, you will see I raised questions and concerns before others.
I just posted separate post about the March 1 Board of Supervisor's about BOS vs the Auditor Controller soap opera.
Each side has presented and released or "leaked" to select media what they want about the Humboldt Auditor Controller's Office and many claims have been made by both sides.
For months, various people have hinted at what Paz Dominguez may have on the BOS to me and made claims for me to look into but they did so without providing actual evidence. Credibility matters. Evidence matters. I am not going on some wild goose chase and wasting time on PRA requests based on anyone's agenda. I am well aware of some of the people who are requesting specific PRAs and why. Lot of people with money to throw around but public information and transparency is not their motive. I know how certain people operate in this County. Many of you know it too; you just prefer to ignore it or speak anonymously where you are not held accountable and your words cannot be verified and there is zero risk.
The peanut gallery, mostly posting anonymously online, are comments from people whose words and identity cannot be verified and I question their motive. Those who may have some valid information have chosen not to share with media who would investigate independently. Others have not provided evidence to match their claims.
I already asked in several previous posts for Humboldt Auditor Controller Karen Paz Dominguez to provide evidence if she had any, to the public. She made some claims today. She says she has proof. I am going to see if the BOS will be transparent and provide all documentation she shares to the public.
Kent Sawatzky in public comment accused County PIO Sean Quincey of allegedly "banging on the Auditor Controller's Office and dropping the F bomb." He told the County to "clean" things up.
To verify such information is treading into confidential, personnel matters and there has been no evidence provided by Sawatzky of this alleged conduct by Quincey.
I am already seeing some departments like HCSO Regina Fuller who was representing the office instead of Sheriff William Honsal saying they want to respond but not in a formal report. No more secret information if you want transparency.
I have never been for "this is the way" it has been done in Humboldt County bs which taints every aspect of Humboldt County.
You can replace the Auditor Controller, every single department head, every single Board of Supervisor and definitely need to replace Sean Quincey who plays "favs" with what media he likes but nothing will change until the entrenched systems, the mentality and those who have abused Humboldt for decades remain infested and in power.
Many of the public comment and comments against the Auditor Controller were from people either employed by the County, dependent on County for their income. Let's here from people who make a living independently and have consistently been watching out for the public.
In all the brouhaha about Ms. Paz Dominguez and the Board of Supervisors, you may or may not have heard about this 2020 court case.
Ms. Paz Dominguez's petition in civil unlimited case was denied before trial according to court records. Court details were very limited. I looked at the file. The case was about Ms.Paz Dominguez wanting an appointed attorney. There was some coverage in local media.
The access denied in e court and some documents pulled before I got to view the actual file is the real story. Why the cloak and dagger? I saw one ex parte application but most of the documents I saw are public record. Most of it was agenda items and information in the file and it is all public record.
Why was her petition denied? Why were minutes not in e-court? Others with court cases don't get the luxury of deciding what gets shared for their cases.
The public does not have all the information. Most people, including media, are not going to bother to request or go through a thick file.
