"You guys ruined my life. Gigi, fuck you bitch. I hope you rot in hell."

Sentencing for Christopher Best and Gaylia Wilson was continued to this morning because Best wanted to be personally present and at the last hearing and there was no probation report for Wilson.

Wilson is out of custody on a Cruz waiver and appeared via Zoom. Best could not be brought into the courtroom and he appeared via Zoom.

Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor for the case. Best's attorney, Ms. Andrea Sullivan was in court and Wilson's attorney Mr. Joe Judge appeared via Zoom.

In April, both resolved their cases with pleas. Best's plea was for a 18 year prison sentence and that is his sentence. Wilson's plea was for three years of probation. However, she was sentenced to 4 years of probation and 365 days in jail. Wilson has credits for 317 days and has to surrender on August 29 to serve the rest of her time in jail. Judge Timothy Canning denied her request to serve the time via SWAP.

Best and Wilson made brief statements and besides the unconvincing words, the fact that Best said, "he just wanted to get it over with" when he couldn't come to court and Wilson being more concerned about SWAP than what the victims said shows the true character.

Details of the plea have been covered several times in previous posts.

Three victim impact statements were read by Ms. Schaffer in court. The children watched via Zoom.

In the emotion of the hearing, the Public Guardian watching with the children interrupted briefly for a few seconds and the children were seen on screen on Zoom.  Thankfully, the You Tube videos cannot be played later and only a few people including other attorneys and parties in this case were watching the proceedings live at that time via Zoom.

Judge Canning expressed it well. After each statement, he said how powerful it was and he appreciated the effort the victims put into each statement.

The first statement was by John Doe. "He has been hurt by the actions of Mr. Best. Ms. Wilson also but he had a close relationship with Mr. Best," said Ms. Schaffer.

John Doe printed out the lyrics to a song to express how he felt. The refrain is," Tell me why you're gonna lie like that." The lyrics include "showing true colors" and "broken promises".

"The worst part is I still miss you."

The second statement by Jane Doe 2. It was titled, "The story of my life."

"I didn't know how to express my feelings because everytime I tried, I got hurt."

She talked about "when she first came to live with you Gigi and Chris."

"I don't know why you did this to me and my family."

She talked about how she tried to protect her sister.

The third statement by Jane Doe 1. Ms. Schaffer said, "The children have very strong feelings. I told them they could say anything they wanted."

"You guys ruined my life. Gigi, fuck you bitch. I hope you rot in hell."

"Chris, you can cry all you want. It doesn't trick me anymore. I hope you die."

Jane Doe 1 called Best "a loser" and said she knows "what happens to guys like you in prison."

For those who haven't followed the coverage on this case, under Wilson's care, there was another molestor who abused the girls before Best. Wilson housed both the perverts. I also covered that case.
