Motion to consolidate both of Michael Grant's cases and motion to amend information granted

Attempted murder suspect Michael Grant has two cases. Today, there was trial confirmation scheduled for one case, a motion to amend information as well as a motion to consolidate both cases. Both motions by the People were granted.

Judge Wilson said that while the law allows the People to amend information up to trial, this was a 2017 case and the people were amending the information "on eve of the trial."

Arguing for consolidation and motion to amend the information, Deputy District Attorney Candace Myers told Judge Wilson that shell casings found in one case match the gun used in both cases and there are different options to charge Grant based on his actions in both cases and the the jury should hear and decide "what is appropriate."

Mr. Neal Sanders objected to the two motions but "submitted" the matter to the court. He made an oral motion to continue the jury trial set for July 30; there was no objection by the People.

Amended information for jury trial has three counts. Count 1 is attempted murder with special allegation that Grant personally and intentionally discharged a firearm; Count 2 is assault with a semi-automatic with special allegation that the firearm was used in the commission of the crime and Count 3 is felon in possession of a firearm. The conviction for Count 3 is a 2014 felony count from Humboldt County.

Jury trial scheduled for July 30 was vacated. Setting for dates is on for July 25.
