"My real dad stabbed him"

CHP Officer Ethan Thompson, HCSO Investigator Mark Petersen and HCSO Detective Hillary Havens testified at Ronald Loureiro's preliminary hearing this morning. The People submitted one document as an exhibit.

On January 4, 2018, Officer Thompson responded to assist HCSO "with a report of a body in the roadway." Location was Hwy 101 and Drydens Road in Orick.

When Officer Thompson arrived, there was an ambulance with " two EMTs treating a man lying on the ground."

"There was a woman on the scene acting hysterical," said Officer Thompson. He clarified that he meant emotional.

Officer Thompson could not recall her last name but the woman, Jacqueline told him that "a man named Ron had stabbed the man" lying in the roadway. Officer Thompson identified Loureiro in court as the man Jacqueline identified as Ron.

Investigator Petersen, the lead investigator in this case said he was "advised by Lt. Kevin Miller that there was a deceased subject in Orick. The subject was possibly a victim of murder."

Two days later, an autopsy was conducted by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Mark Super. Dr. Super showed Investigator Petersen the stab wound which led to the chest.

Cause of Vernon Weatherford's death was "single stab wound to the chest."

Investigator Petersen contacted Jacqueline Carter. He was unable to talk to her"in depth" on scene, due to her grief. Carter had witnessed Loureiro stab Weatherford.

Carter had a prior relationship with Loureiro and had "three children with him."

"Weatherford was seated in a vehicle with her three boys in the backseat of the vehicle" and saw Loureiro stab Weatherford.

During cross examination by Deputy Conflict Counsel Joe Judge, Investigator Petersen said Doe 1 was eight years old; he made statements after the stabbing. "Something like, Ron, why did you stab my dad?"

Doe 2 is the six year old. Doe 3 is the two year old.

Weatherford's toxicology report showed meth in his system. Investigator Petersen did not recall the level of meth.

Detective Havens got a call on January4, 2018 about "three children, who possibly witnessed a murder." Forensic interviewers "spoke with two minor children."

Detective Havens said the eight year old seemed very "distraught." The six year old was "sad."

The six year old said he had witnessed "Ron stab Vernon." The child referred to Weatherford as"dad." The six year old said, "My real dad stabbed him."
