Politics can wait, the news can wait because there are some people I want to thank. Lt. Ortega and Officer Bram Jansen who responded to me right away this morning promptly about the criminal who has been threatening, stalking, interrupting my work. I will have to follow up with HCSO.

Kym for responding to the disclaimers and other concerns I raised. I added her response to that post.

This was a 3 day weekend and all 3 of these peoole are very busy people. They made a choice to be decent, compassionate humans.

At that time, Citizens for a Better Eureka Gail Rymer told me CBE attorney Bradley Johnson was out of town and she would get back to me this week. Today, I received a response with a quote for Housing for All initiative co-sponsor Mike Munson.

On February 15, 2024 the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team, Special Services, Trinity County Sheriff’s Office, and California Fish and Wildlife served a search warrant on two properties in eastern Humboldt County and two properties in Southern Trinity County.

When the good ole boys and gals in Humboldt are scared, when the lackeys who leech off them are petrified of losing their gravy train, they predictably attack, smear and lie and mostly anonymously.

Why is Asa Kavich spreading rumors and regurgitating talking points from  Gregory Kreis and his campaign? Voters should follow the dollars and the ad money and any connection Asa has to Gregory Kreis, Jessica Watson or stakeholders in this race. Asa is despicable talking about Ms. April Van Dyke's looks. It is a personal matter for Ms. Van Dyke to share and I believe she intends to but Asa or anyone else does not get to dictate when, three weeks before an election.

Is Asa even correct about where he is employed? Does he have correct information on his Linkedin profile?Asa seems to have deleted or scrubbed his social media.

Asa links Lost Coast Crapost. Claims about Kalin's lawsuit and what was proven or not proven from a local rag that did not even cover the Kreis scandal or that lawsuit until recently with one perfunctory slopjob.  Lost Coast Crapost publishing without checking what Kreis said at his campaign event and other claims have been addressed on this blog with court documents multiple times. I have posted all fppc forms filed and they are also on the election website. Some campaigns are more diligent than others on the paperwork.

I predicted the dirty tactics before the primary election and the good ole boys and gals and their handlers, enablers and those who profit from them did not disappoint. These distractions are meaningless and typical Humboldt drama.

The question is are these attacks from the Gregory Kreis campaign or the last minute spoiler Jessica Watson promoters? How many of these smears are from Kreis' good ole boy supporters and cronies such as Richard Dicky Salzman, Rex Bohn, the same anonymous law enforcement, DA insiders, Humboldt court insiders who have smeared, lied, attacked several people including me in previous elections. 

Kreis and Watson have at least two names in common: Gallegos and Salzman. If you are tough on crime, then why would you support Kreis or Watson? Both have ties to Paul Gallegos who was the most soft on crime, incompetent DA. Gallegos'  administration was a disaster for women and children, especially sexual assault and sexual abuse survivors.

Why is Watson not touting on her bare minimum website that she was a Gallegos hire? She has yet to qualify as a write in candidate so people thinking she is an alternative need to wait until Humboldt elections makes that decision.

Kreis loses Eureka Councilmembers endorsements, gains Humboldt GOP endorsements

Eureka Councilmembers Renee Contreras-DeLoach  and Leslie Castellano have joined Alex Stillman who was the first to dump scandal ridden Gregory Kreis. He claims  he is non partisan. Kreis was not endorsed by the Humboldt County Democratic Committe. His challenger, Ms. April Van Dyke got that endorsement. Kreis made a big deal about being non partisan but he has been rubber stamped by the local GOP along with with Rex Bohn, Michelle Bushnell and Roy Gomez. Why is that GOP endorsement not on Kreis' site?

I guess all those conservatives including Kreis endorsers Rex Bohn, Ryan Sundberg and Billy Honsal think Humboldt's wannabe Trump shaking his genitals to wake up an attorney he was friends with and Kreis dating a woman subordinate to him who is a Humboldt Superior court employee while he was still married is okay.  Rex who makes sexist remarks about  bar owners and Ryan who was dating another woman and ended his marriage would have no issue with Kreis' behavior. I was told by someone Ryan was dating the babysitter.  Conservatives only care about money and power. conservatives don't believe in traditional values. Their actions say otherwise. Liberals like Paul Gallegos and Dicky Salzman don't care. Kreis' womanizing and disgusting behavior is something his supporters obviously condone and defend.

Salzshit supported Gallegos, the worst DA for criminals who abused women and children. As for Salzman read this post which I have linked before about his dirty tactics. What Salzshit says has 0 credibility.

Humboldt Superior Court candidate April Van Dyke just issued a statement responding to allegations against her opponent, incumbent Judge Gregory Kreis. I have been reporting on the CJP investigation, several of the incidents and allegations since I first broke the story in 2020 that Kreis was being investigated.

He has made local, regional, national and international news for the 19 counts in the notice of formal proceedings filed against him by the Commission on Judicial Performance. The screenshots above are just three of the several articles since the CJP issued the press release.

In August 2022, I reported about Arthur Scott Bryson's arrest.

On February 9 2024, I received this email. I have cropped the phone number and other irrelevant information. No evidence was provided of charges being dismissed.

On 2/16/24, which was the next time I was at the courthouse and had access to e-court, I checked on Bryson's 2022 case for that arrest. He lied. Not only is there no evidence of charges being dismissed, he has two failures to appear and an outstanding bench warrant. Bryson should have never been granted supervised release after the first failure to appear. The People objected. Humboldt Judges need to stop releasing repeat offenders. Law enforcement needs to be better about following up on outstanding warrants that were issued years ago.

When I saw the Humboldt Bay Fire press release about the boarded up house on the 2300 block of 3rd street in Eureka, I knew it was the unkempt, trashed house on 2301 3rd Street where transients go to shoot up and engage in other activities. It also happens to be the house that always has signs for conservative candidates. The last time Mike Newman ran for office, I mentioned his sign was there. It looked like a bigger eyesore a few years ago. It has not sold despite an attempt a few and been vacant for years.

It was removed shortly. Iemailed HBF Fire Chief Tim Citro and he confirmed it was that house at 2301 3rd street.

A Humboldt :outsider" ran against an incumbent judge and won by 26 votes

 

Greg Conners's dad was a Deputy District Attorney when he ran against an incumbent judge. The anmouncement that he would run was in 1958. Robert Conners won the race by 26 votes. He was an outsider and had only been in Humboldt County for 8 years prior. Judge Robert Conners remained on the bench  until he passed away in 1971.

Dakota Stanley arrested on very specfic molestation charges and possession of meth

 

Dakota Lee Stanley was arrested by Eureka Police Department yesterday for PC 288.2(a)(2) sending harmful material to seduce a minor, PC 288.3(a) contacting a minor for sexual purposes and to commit a felony PC288.4(b) arranging a meeting with a minor to commit a lewd and lascivious act, PC 417.4  brandishing  an imitation firearm in a threatening manner PC 647.6(b) annoying or molesting a child under 18 and HS11377 (a) possession of methamphetamine.

Congressman Mike Thompson and Yurok Tribe Vice Chair and candidate for California State Assembly District 2 Frankie Myers have both endorsed Humboldt Superior Court Judge candidate and former Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke.

Judge Moorman summarily revoked Acosta's probation, he has filed a demurrer to the petition filed against him for probation violation

 

On Friday, local attorney Michael Acosta was arraigned on the petition for probation violation in his 2020 case. 

The case moved from Coutroom 3 to Coutroom 5 because of recusal by the entire Humboldt bench. Acosta filed a demurrer in court and gave a copy to Deputy District Attorney Ian Harris. Mendocino Judge Ann Moorman summarily revoked Acosta's probation. This means the conditions of probation stay in effect, but it stops the clock running on the probation period. 

The  VOP hearing  and the demurrer is scheduled to be heard on 3/7. A demurrer is a legal objection to the sufficiency of a pleading by an opposing party. Until the 3/7 court date, Acosta must abide by all conditions of probation previously imposed.

Acosta has filed an appeal in that case and his conviction has been submitted to the State Bar. I just did a post four days ago and have been regularly reporting on developments in Acosta's 2020 case.

Humboldt Superior Court cerainly knows how to take care of their own and puts the selective in justice aka Humboldt injustice.

Count 1 DUI VC 23152 (a), Count 2 DUI VC23152 (b) and Count 3 VC 16028 (a). Arraignment is on 3/5. Will Buck resolve her case with an early plea?

Disgraced Humboldt Superior Court Judge Gregory Kreis lawyer is as stupid as his client. The AP article published by the U.S. News and World Report has no byline. I thought Mr. James Murphy was declining to comment to the press. That is based on what was stated by other regional and media covering the Kreis scsndal. Who knows when Murphy was interviewed but the US and World News report was posted online yesterday. All Murphy and Kreis' statements to press can be used as evidence.

Attorneys and readers contacted me with both these errors. Some chose to contact Thad privately which led to the correction. In the comments, readers called out NCJ on the burying the lead, ignoring critical information and not thinking it was a cover story.

Thad also misspelled Sonya Smith's name. I spoke with her as well when I first reported and broke the news about the Commission on Judicial Performance proceedings against Humboldt Judge Gregory Kreis. I had the decency to make sure I checked the name. 

Courtroom 1 ceremony today for new Court Commissioner Sarah Kaber

At 11:30 today,  Assistant Presiding Judge Kelly Neel administered the oath for new Court Commissioner Sarah Kaber. Nothing on the Humboldt Superior Court website. I had inquired about this when the press release about the appointment was sent out. 

Commissioner Kaber's official start date is February 26. Until 1:30, eveeyone attending and from the courts was invited to a taco bar at Chapala's.

Hearing on motion for new trial against Luke Brownfield and Marek Reavis granted

 

Hearing on a motion for a new trial on 2/26/24 against Public Defender Luke Brownfield and former Public Defender Marek Reavis. This is the lawsuit filed by former Deputy Public Defender Rory Kalin. Co-defendant Judge Gregory settled. I reported on the motion for new trial on January 29, 2024.
