On Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at about 1:00 a.m. the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a home invasion robbery that had just occurred on Meadow View Rd., in the Benbow area. Senator McGuire asks State Dept of Health to reject closures of 3 skilled nursing facilities
With word of potentially dangerous closures of three skilled nursing facilities in the greater Humboldt Bay region, Senator Mike McGuire is urging the state Department of Public Health to reject Rockport Management's closure plan. McGuire is spending the week meeting with several stakeholder groups to work on solutions, both short term and long term.
"This is not an armored tank but a rescue recovery vehicle"
Sheriff Downey spoke about the need for Humboldt County to have its own BEARCAT. Referring tio the standoff between law enforcement and David Fulton in McKinleyville recently, "I guarantee without the use of the Mendocino County BEARCAT provided to us, we would not have been able to remove people without harm." He spoke of the bullet holes in the adjoining apartment as one example.
Sheriff Downey brought up other examples in the last two years. The situation where Nick Johnson shot at the District Attorney investigators in a residential neighborhood; former Deputy Bang Cao who was shot at in Shelter Cover, "thankfully the bulletproof vest saved his life."
Humboldt County gets a Bearcat by unanimous vote
Today, the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors voted regarding a reconsideration request for a Bearcat that was brought forth by Supervisors Ryan Sundberg and Supervisor Mark Lovelace.
Humboldt County Sheriff Mike Downey, Undersheriff William Honsal, Eureka Police Chief Andy Mills.
Other options, including funding were explored. It will take 8 months to get the Bearcat ordered, said Supervisor Sundberg.
"The Board of Supervisors made an appropriate decision based on welfare and safety of all residents and law enforcement in Humboldt County," Sheriff Downey told me after the vote. "I appreciate this item moving forward."
A core group of operators will be trained in using the BEARCAT.
Sheriff Downey and the Supervisors thanked Mendocino Sheriff Tom Allman for the use of his county's BEARCAT and personally coming up here for the McKinleyville standoff.

I wonder what the editors and TV news directors thought was so vital that they could not send even one reporter to the Board of Supervisors meeting today.

Alleged vandalism report to truck reported by Ashleigh Groeling; HCSO investigating

Within a couple of hours of her arrival, the tires to a fairly new truck were slashed and the windows busted, according to more than one source.
A report was made to law enforcement, HCSO Sgt. Jesse Taylor verified that a report of alleged vandalism was made. HCSO is investigating and the deputy has not finished his report yet.

Willow Bay apartments shooting lead points to possible suspect, a felon with a gun
Reports of Willow Bay shooting included a lead of a possible suspect, a felon with a gun.
Investigation is ongoing. Four individuals that were detained are being questioned "at a safer location," EPD Captain Brian Stephens told reporters.

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible double homicide in the Hyampom area that law enforcement responded to around 11 a.m. on Sunday.
According to more than one source, the site where the two men were found dead was a site of a grow and the homicides maybe marijuana related.

Rape of the unconscious, human trafficking involving sex acts with minors, domestic violence involving trauma, failing to register as a sex offender, lewd acts against a child are "nonviolent felonies"?
Proposition 57 or the Public Safety and Rehabilitation Act, another misleading name like Proposition 47, considers the preceding crimes "nonviolent felonies."
From the Association of Deputy District Attorneys, Los Angeles County:
"Offenders who commit multiple crimes against multiple victims will be eligible for release at the same time as offenders who only committed a single crime against a single victim. Repeat offenders will be eligible for release after the same period of incarceration as first time offenders. Offenders whose sentence was enhanced for especially egregious conduct will be eligible for release at the same time as those who did not engage in the egregious conduct. ... Juvenile offenders who commit violent crimes like murder, rape and carjacking cannot be filed on as adults. They must be filed on in juvenile court."
We have all seen the revolving door of repeat offenders in Humboldt County; Proposition 47's effect by reclassifying certain crimes as misdemeanors. This is what Gov. Jerry Brown and Kamala Harris want to unleash on citizens. The outcry so far has come from deputy DAs, sheriffs, law enforcement and Republican groups.
Who has been silent? Women's groups and Democrats.

APD identify pedestrian killed in alleged traffic collision on 14th and H street
On September 4, 2016 at about 7:15 pm, the Arcata Police Department investigated a fatal, vehicle versus pedestrian, traffic collision at the intersection of 14th Street and H Street in Arcata.
The driver of the vehicle, Robert Willard Bergeson III, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and was arrested. The pedestrian, identified as 55-year-old Arcata resident Alan Edward Gradwohl, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation and anyone that may have witnessed the collision or has information is asked to contact the Arcata Police Department at 822-2424.

25 year old John Thomas Burbridge arrested by APD for alleged posession of assault weapon
During the investigation officers learned Burbridge was in possession of loaded firearms in his vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded two loaded 12 gauge shot-guns and one .223 caliber assault rifle which was loaded with high capacity magazines.
Burbridge was taken into custody and booked at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the following charges:
· PC 25850(a)- Carrying Loaded Firearm in Public
· PC 30605(a)- Possession of Assault Weapon
· PC 32310(a)- Manufacture, Importation, Sale, Loan Large-Capacity Magazine

Grass Fire at the end of O street that started approximately an hour and a half ago, under control now.
Fire had been blowing towards the old creamery building and Fed Ex building.

"Arcata Fire District units are mopping up at a vegetation fire at the west end of 8th Street. Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Humboldt Bay Fire, and Samoa Peninsula Fire District are assisting with fire attack and coverage of the District."
Multiple media outlets reported on the fire, North Coast News' Scott Rates was live; so was Bobby Kroeker for Kym Kemp.
According to Kym Kemp's site, Arcata Crime Unit is investigating if a homeless camp was cause of fire.

K9 Nordy helps FPD, HCSO and Fish &Wildlife nab Jesse Lussow of Fortuna

At approximately 7:20PM, officers attempted to serve a Felony Warrant on Jesse Lussow (age 40 of Fortuna) in the 2500 Block of Hannah Court. Upon arrival, Lussow fled out the back of the residence. A perimeter was established, K9 Nordy was deployed and shortly later, Lussow was taken into custody without incident. The Fortuna Police Department was assisted by the Ferndale Police Department, Humboldt County Sheriffs Office, & California Department of Fish & Wildlife.

Alleged victim near Sempervirens refused service by City Ambulance
Around 3 p.m. scanner report about EPD responding to a possible stabbing near Sempervirens.
Trying to confirm with EPD right now what exactly happened. According to a source, the alleged victim refused treatment, at least by City Ambulance.
