Why set a "special" in April when crucial report will not be available until May?

On March 8, 3/8 setting of preliminary hearing and status of discovery was scheduled in Alderpoint homicide suspect Jake Combs' case.

The preliminary has been scheduled as a "special set" on 4/15. Time estimate is 4 hours.

Victim Trevor Earley's family and friends are present in large numbers at each hearing. If there is a  continuance because defense does not have crucial reports and discovery and Combs' attorney is in trial, are Humboldt Superior Court administration, Presiding Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis and Judge Christopher Wilson going to apologize for the unnecessary pain to Earley's family?

The local court "powers to be, on a regular basis, don't care about anyone else's time and have continued the inefficient scheduling and organization of the last few years.

Deputy Public Defender Ben McLaughlin has been in trial after trial. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian appeared on his behalf. Deputy District Attorney Jessica Acosta is the prosecutor.
