Richard Fursman of HUElife is doing a briefing right now. Then thevpublic will have a chance to comment before Eureka City Council goes into closed session and the candidates are interviewed by the citizen panels.
Ken Bates, former City Councilmembers Marian Brady and Chet Albin are some of the attendees.
Bates said that "this is my 10th City Manager. We have had some competent managers. Mr. Sparks is an example; we have had some interesting managers. The person you chose today will have a profound impact on our industry (fishing) for years to come."
Albin spoke about him spearheading bringing the cruise ships to Eureka and being on the Council when current city manager Greg Sparks was "brought on board." He talked about needing a cruise ship dock in Eureka.
"We have been told Humboldt State University is interested in coming back to Eureka."
"I am passionately interested in the well being of Eureka," said Brady. She asked that learning curves be considered when choosing a candidate. A sentiment echoed by Bates in his remarks.
