Patricio Segura's jury trial could be rescheduled due to issues with interpreters

Trial confirmation for alleged molestor Patricio Segura was scheduled for October 31. The hearing had been continued twice and was continued again to trial assignment tomorrow morning. Jury trial for November 4.

Alleged victim is his stepdaughter. According to testimony during the preliminary hearing, Segura's wife walked into her kitchen to find Segura sitting in a chair and Jane Doe was on her knees performing oral sex on him.

Segura is charged with 7 counts. The charges include forcible oral copulation, forcible rape, aggravated sexual assault of a child, forcible lewd act upon a child and continuous sexual abuse.

There is an offer from the People for a 12 year stipulated sentence that will be withdrawn tomorrow.

Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads is the prosecutor for the case. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian is Segura's attorney.

The latest twist this morning involved interpreters. Mr. Orbelian told Visiting Judge Marjorie Carter that defense was confirming with the caveat Segura "cannot fully understand" the interpreter on his case, Carlos Benneman.

Ms. Eads told Judge Carter that the People will need an interpreter for one witness; maybe more. Time estimate is now 6 weeks.

So the matter was continued to see how many interpreters are needed and if they are available.
