"It is a small area. People talk about a lot of things. "

Ray Christie's jury trial started this morning with attorneys discussing motions on limine with Judge Christopher Wilson.

Deputy District Attorney A.J. Kamada is the prosecutor for this case. Mr. John Cogorno and Mr. Ken Bareilles are Christie's attorneys. Only Mr. Cogorno was in court today.

I posted excerpts of a defense motion yesterday. I briefly observed the discussion on the media coverage concerns raised by Mr. Cogorno.

"Welcome to Humboldt County," said Judge Wilson. "It is a small area. People talk about a lot of things. "

"While it is extensive," Judge Wilson said, he pointed out Christie's case and comments online were not "particularly unusual. I am not going to delve into Thunderdome." He told Mr. Cogorno there had been mention of the case in the Cattlemen's Association newsletter, as well.

Judge Wilson mentioned that media coverage was covered in the draft of Mr. Kamada's long jury questionnaire and that Mr. Cogorno could question further in voir dire.

"If there was a need for change of venue, I would have heard of that."
