Jon Benton wanted for brandishing a firearm at law enforcement

On March 31, 2019,  at  about 2:40  a.m., officers  with the  Eureka  Police  Department responded to  a  residence  on the 300 block of Dollison Street to assist the  Humboldt County  Sheriff’s  Office  with  a  welfare  check of  a  juvenile, Jon Patrick  Benton (17 of Eureka)  who  was  reported to be a  possible victim in  a  recent crime.

A deputy  and officer  entered the residence  and  encountered  Benton in the doorway  of  an upstairs bedroom.  Benton pointed a  handgun at the  officer  and deputy  who  both exercised extreme restraint  and  quickly  retreated to a  position of  advantage.  Benton fled out of an upstairs window  and escaped  while officers were  setting  up a  perimeter.

Benton is wanted by  the  Eureka  Police  Department for  brandishing  a  firearm at a police officer,  resisting  arrest,  and  minor in possession of  a  firearm.   Benton is also wanted on an existing  juvenile warrant.   Benton is described  as a  white male, 5’10’, 125 lbs., brown hair and  brown  eyes.    Anyone  with  information  regarding  Benton’s  whereabouts  is asked to call  the  Eureka Police  Department at  (707) 441-4044.  Benton  is  considered  to be  armed and dangerous, do  not attempt to detain.
