Lorna Leen may testify at her son's hearing; he is charged with stabbing Brandon Brocious
Christopher Craft aka Christopher Sterling is charged with stabbing Brandon Brocious. Both dated Jane Doe at different times. Jane is the eye witness who testified at the preliminary hearing for Craft's mother, Lorna Leen. Charges were dismissed against Leen.
A pre trial conference was scheduled this afternoon in Craft's case. There was a contested 602 hearing scheduled for next week. The defense filed a motion to continue the contested 602 (jurisdictional hearing). At first, the People wanted to continue argument on the motion.
"I haven't had time to go over the motion with the family," said Deputy District Attorney Jessica Watson. Ms. Watson had briefly spoken with family members before court.
Then, both attorneys ended up giving oral arguments this afternoon.
"Discovery hasn't been provided," said Ms. Christina Allbright. She represents the juvenile, Christopher Craft. " I was unable to complete the investigation due to the death of my investigator ( Max Hadley)."
"I don't think good cause has been shown," said Ms. Watson. She said Ms. Allbright had not requested discovery from the DA's office and did not see the why the Lorna Leen preliminary transcript was neccesary.
Ms. Allbright responded that the charges against Lorna Leen (for the murder of Brocious) were dismissed. "The mother is a potential witness."
The time estimate for the jurisdictional hearing is 10 days.
Retired Judge John Feeney found "good cause" and granted the defense motion to continue the jurisdictional hearing to June 11. Pre trial was rescheduled for May 28.
Brocious' father, mom and stepdad were in court today. They have been at every court hearing.
