Man with 23 cases ranted at people, accosted the DA, yelled at a Judge and finally was remanded into custody

It is a small town, the court staff, the bailiffs, the Judges are patient with frequent fliers but this guy kept pushing his luck this morning.

Andrew Nelson has 23 cases in the Humboldt Superior Court system. This morning, he had one 2019 case, one 2018 case and two cases from 2014 on the calendar.

Charges for his 2019 and 2018 case include fleeing from a traffic officer; sale/transport/possession of tear gas; possesion of narcotics; obstruction/resisting a police officer and driving with a suspended/revoked license.

Nelson was out of custody and representing himself. Court bailiffs were patient with him while he ranted at people waiting near Courtroom 6, then he babbled incoherently outside Courtroom 5 for a while, then walked over and verbally accosted DA Maggie Fleming outside Courtroom 3  rambling , then created a scene because Courtroom 5 was not open at exactly 8:30 and when he was inside court yelled at Judge Christopher Wilson.  Throughout all this bailiffs, court staff, DA Fleming and Judge Wilson were patient with him and talked to him calmly.

Two extra bailiffs stood by in court. Nelson wouldn't listen and his drama delayed court for several minutes. Finally, he was remanded into custody.

Maybe Nelson should declare himself incompetent to stand trial at the next court hearing.  This is not a rare occurence at the Humboldt Courthouse. And, it is not the first time Nelson has acted out.
