After my PRA request, City of Eureka releases the Schoonmaker agreement

I submitted the PRA request. No other media has covered this settlement and litigation. I reported on this for months and was the first to report about the litigation.

Statement from the City of Eureka:

"The City of Eureka released the settlement agreement between the City of Eureka and Jill Schoonmaker pursuant to a Public Records Request.

This case was originally tendered to the City’s Insurance JPA, Redwood Empire Municipal Insurance Fund (REMIF).  The City’s deductible with REMIF for all liability cases is $25,000.  REMIF provides coverage up to $500,000.  The REMIF Board of Directors tendered the claim to its excess carrier, the California Joint Powers Risk Management Authority (CJPRMA).  Eugene B. Elliot and Ethan M. Lowry of Bertrand Fox, Elliot, Osman & Wenzel represented the City of Eureka, defending this case ."

With all the staff, the resources, the funding, time and again, it is up to me a self employed blogger to put in time and resources into getting documents that impact taxpayers and taking on systems, governments and stories other media ignores.
