EPD and POP clean up another nuisance  property

On April 22, 2019  the Eureka  Police  Department’s  Problem Oriented Policing  Unit (POP) and Parks and Waterfront Ranger assisted the  City  of Eureka  Code  Enforcement Unit with the execution of  an  Inspection/Abatement warrant  at  a  residence  on the 100 block of  Henderson Street.    This warrant  was  a  follow-up to  EPD’s  April  9th  search warrant  where  Code  Enforcement officers located  numerous code  violations within the house  and on the property.

As a  part of  the  warrant process,  the tenants were  served a  24-hour  notice  to  vacate on Friday,  April 19, 2019.    The  tenants were  given the  weekend to remove their belongings from the  property.    During  today’s  warrant,  approximately  six  people  were  located inside the residence  and structures on the  property.    They  were  given  approximately  45 minutes to vacate.

Once  the property  had been vacated, crews boarded up and secured the residence  and all structures on the  property  due  to  substandard conditions,  trash, illegal wiring, and still no power or  running  water.    City  crews removed two  40  yard dumpsters of  trash and waste from the  yard of the  residence,  along  with a dump truck load of  tires.

Nuisance  properties  create  blight in a  neighborhood and often attract a criminal element that has an immediate and sometimes sustained effect on the  quality  of life  for  those that reside in the  neighborhood.    Most  of these  properties take  a  consistent effort by  many different  entities, from both the  City  and the public, to get to an outcome  like  what  was achieved today  for  this neighborhood.

The  Eureka  Police  Department would like to thank everyone  that has been involved in this process and would encourage  more residents to be  involved in making  their  neighborhoods a  better place  to live!
