Since  the beginning  of March  2019, the Eureka  Police  Department and Eureka Community  Services  Department  has  responded to numerous complaints of vandalism and theft of city  property  along  the  Boardwalk in  Old Town.

The  total amount of damage and theft has been  estimated to  be  more  than $24,000. To proactively  address the  on-going  crime, the Community  Safety  Enhancement Team (CSET)  conducted  multiple  covert  operations  to locate those  responsible.

On April 7, 2019  at about 3:00  a.m.,  CSET officers observed  two males  approach a  city  bench near the foot of C Street.    The  two  began kicking, pushing  and pulling  the bench  causing significant damage.

The  two were  contacted  and identified as Travis John  Rose  (34 of Eureka)  and Keith Daniel Daffern (41 of  Eureka).     Rose  and Daffern  were  transported  and  booked  into the  Humboldt County  Correctional Facility.

Rose  was taken  into custody  for  felony  vandalism  and  public  intoxication.   Daffern was taken into custody  for  felony  vandalism,  public  intoxication, and probation violation.
