Sleeping in a stolen Subaru in February; arrested in May for allegedly stealing a Toyota

EPD Press Release:

On May 30, 2017, at about 5:07 p.m., the Eureka Police Department received information that a stolen Toyota 4Runner was parked in the Walmart parking lot on the 3300 block of Broadway.  Officers responded and located the vehicle parked and occupied by two male passengers.

Officers conducted a high risk traffic stop and detained the two occupants.  It was determined the driver of the vehicle, Victor Becerra, 21 of Eureka, had gone into the store prior to officers arrival.  Officers searched inside the store but were unable to locate Becerra.  The passengers were interviewed and released and the vehicle was returned to the owner.

At about 9:20 p.m., officers received information that Becerra was walking near the 1300 block of Bayshore Way.  Officers located Becerra and took him into custody without further incident.  Becerra was transported and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for possession of a stolen vehicle and probation violation.
