Huge loss for Humboldt County DA's office; Deputy District Attorney Brie Bennett left; now a Deputy Public Defender

Deputy District Attorney Brie Bennett, who was very successful in prosecuting many cases at the Humboldt County District office, including the Kailan Meserve case has left the DA's office and will start as a Deputy Public Defender, this Monday.

While I always wish Ms. Bennett the best, this is a huge loss for the DA's office.

  1. I've been wondering what was happening with the Marcus case but thought if there was news, you'd report it. So I wonder if maybe Ms. Bennett is going into the office as a DPD but would then be named to replace the departing Marcus. From the accomplishments in the DA's office (you always give credit where credit is due so I do recognize Ms. Bennett's name) she may be just what's needed in the PD office.

    1. I will have an update on the Marcus case, if a date has been set, by tomorrow. Anything is possible but I have not heard anything about Mr. Marcus departing. I actually have observed him in court a few times and spoken with him a few times. He is very respectful and I have not seen anything in court, so far, that concerns me about his abilities.

    2. Third Gallegos hire to do it. Guess they're more comfortable with a defense lawyer for a boss.
