Concerned parent contacts me about alleged sex crime suspect Markus Evans, HCSO and DA isn't this a violation of his supervised release terms?

In October 2024, I reported on the arrest of Markus Evans by DA Investogator Ryan Hill for sex crimes involving a minor. The DA charged him with three felonies. Judge Kaleb Cockrum granted him supervised release on October 4, 2024. One of the conditions is that Evans has no contact with minors.

Since November 2024, his preliminary hearing has been continued five times by defense. At the last hearing on 5/21/25, defense seeking expert, Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian said defense was seeking an expert. The preliminary hearing was rescheduled for 7/23.

On 6/6/25, I received this email.

"Myself and some others are wondering if there are any updates in this case, Markus has been at our children's school with his current girlfriend and it is my understanding he's not allowed around children."

I emailed back, "Did you inform the school? Which school? Did you inform law enforcement? Did you call the DA? "

I got a second response. I am not including the last sentence to protect the identity of the person who contacted me.

"I did inform the school and Rio Dell Police department said there is nothing in the system when they look it up. I haven't informed the DA as I was under the impression they're closed on Friday. I did call the court house and they told me I could get information from the sheriff's office which was also closed at that time. The school needed evidence that he isn't allowed around minors in order to kick him off of the property."

I told the tipster I would make the DA, HCSO aware of these concerns.  I have sent this post to HCSO Lt. Jesse Taylor and DA Chief Investigator Kyla Baxley but it is after business hours now.

Ms. Baxley responded to me on 6/10 in the morning. "Thanks, John, we will look into this asap."

HCSO Lt. Taylor responded to me on 6/10 in the evening. "If there is a violation of the SR terms, and it occurred in the City of Rio Dell, RDPD should be investigating. I can work with RDPD if they are having difficulty finding the release terms."

Since this is a confidential tip and I have done what I told the reader and parent which is to follow up on the case as well as make the DA and HCSO aware, it is upto the reader to follow up further with the DA, HCSO and RDPD.

7/23/25: Preliminary hearing continued by defense to 9/10/25 for setting of preliminary hearing; defense gave the same reason of obtaining an expert and opinion which has been going on since last year.

9/10/25: Preliminary hearing scheduled for 11/5/25.

11/5/25: Preliminary hearing continued by defense to 2/18/26 for expert report.
