I was the first person to report former Humboldt Court mediator Joe Hale was arrested and since then have done several exclusives.
8 months later, crickets from Humboldt Superior Court and the DA's office. Hale has yet to be charged.
Today, I found out a second court mediator, Velda Gooden, has been let go/fired by Humboldt Superior Court. The news does not surprise me.
A few reasons are making their rounds in the courthouse rumor mill. One of those "rumors" is information I was told by someone who emailed me. If that is the case, Gooden brought this on herself.
Depending on why Gooden was fired, there is a story to be told and it may not just be talk around the watercooler.
Gooden has previously worked for DHHS and as a Humboldt County Victim Witness Advocate. She was saying her goodbyes on Monday.
On 10/28/22, I received an email. The person claimed it was related to Joe Hale. I already knew and reported Hale had left. I spoke with this person to verify identity. I did not post or follow up on what this person claimed because the agenda became very clear. This person wanted to use me for their family law case. That is not news.
Is Gooden's being let go connected to this person?
This person told me some stuff about Gooden, made claims about Hale, made claims about the DA's office and Humboldt Superior Court Judges and others and why this person thinks Hale is not being charged.
This person or whoever tried to entrap me and use me is very stupid. This person is telling me stuff about a system and people I know well. If you are going to make shocking claims; you need to provide rock solid evidence.
I asked for evidence. This person claimed to have it but did not provide any evidence and stopped emailing me. Kept harping on instead, wanting me to write about the family law case. Even after I explained I wouldn't, why and that told this person to think about their minor child. This person was willing to go public.
If what this person claimed is true, no other local media would touch this story. They are cowards who have repeatedly proven that they ignore and do selective coverage.
If evidence had been provided that could be verified, this would answer a lot of questions and maybe corroborate some information I may already know. It could have the potential to be a regional or national news story.
Some of the irrelevant documents provided to me by this person had court email addresses the public does not have. Humboldt Superior Court should be grateful I know that and would never post those email addresses on the blog.
Humboldt Superior Court and the DA won't respond about Hale, won't charge Hale and are denying the public information about Hale. This is a man who dealt with families and children. The charge against is serious.
Humboldt Superior Court probably won't respond about Gooden but I did contact temporary Humboldt Court CEO Meara Hattan and Humboldt Superior Court Kelly Nyberg.
Just because one person did not provide evidence does not mean others do not know or may not have information or evidence. Humboldt Superior Court and the Humboldt DA's office are handling the Hale arrest and follow up badly. With Gooden, will there be transparency from Humboldt Superior Court or more sweeping under the rug?
Agencies supposed to protect the public are certainly not demonstrating it by their actions.
Humboldt Superior Court administration did not respond to me to officially confirm Humboldt Superior Court CEO Kim Bartleson is on leave. She is on leave.
Is there overlap between Gooden, Hale and Bartleson? If there weren't roadblocks to verify information and get the truth public deserves to know, that answer could have been addressed in this post.
Humboldt Superior Court is like the Titanic. The rate people leaving and jumping ship a lot are leaving recently raises questions.
Few different sources who do not know each other said hundreds of complaints were filed against Hale over several years. One source indicated a State agency was aware of "red flags" about Hale prior to his termination. Any complaint would go to Bartleson as CEO. You think the current Presiding Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis and other Humboldt Judges who heard family law cases were clueless about Hale?
