Meth, drugs, resisting and obstructing deputies results in two arrests

On Feb. 3, 2023, at about 5:26 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol in the Eureka area observed an outstanding felony warrant suspect at an RV park on the 3700 block of Harris Street.

Upon seeing deputies, the suspect, 43-year-old Brenton Charles Richard, fled into an RV. Richard refused deputies’ demands to exit the RV, barricading himself inside. Additionally, a female occupant of the RV, 42-year-old Ericka Carolyn Melton, actively assisted Richard by obstructing deputies from accessing the RV. After approximately one hour, deputies forced entry into the RV and arrested Richard and Melton. During a search of Richard incident to arrest, deputies located approximately .8 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Richard was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of possession of a controlled substance (HS 11377(a)), possession of a controlled substance paraphernalia (HS 11364(a)), resisting a peace officer (PC 148(a)(1)), violation of probation (1203.2(a)(2)) and Post Release Community Supervision Revocation (PC 3445).

Melton was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of felony accessory (PC 32) and obstructing a peace officer (PC 148(a)(1)).
