The Critics, an alternative rock band based in Fortuna will be releasing their debut album “Miserable & Melodramatic” to music streaming platforms on February 28th. An album release party is being held on March 4.  The lead single “The Noise” is being played from coast to coast.

Press Release:

Humboldt County, CA alternative rock band, The Critics, are releasing their debut album “Miserable & Melodramatic” to music streaming platforms February 28th, 2023.  They are celebrating the release on Saturday, March 4th from 7-10pm at a free all-ages show at The Jam Arcata with local bands Marble Jar and Phosphorus. Sergio Ramirez (Vocals/Guitar), Joshua Fuller (Guitar), Ethan Fuller (Drums), and Aaron Soli (Bass) of The Critics will be performing the album live. CD’s and merchandise will be available. Doors open at 6:30pm.

It’s been a few months since The Critics launched the lead single “The Noise” to radio stations and music VIPs nationally and the response has been beyond their expectations. Releasing music to streaming platforms like Spotify and iTunes is pretty common for musicians these days. The Critics took it a step further by using music promoter, PlayMPE, to distribute “The Noise” to radio stations and music VIPs across the nation. They hoped music and program directors would select their song for air play to get their music in front of a larger audience and their dream has become a reality. To date, “The Noise” has had 63 downloads and 147 streams by radio stations, internet retailers, and music VIPs nationwide. The downloads include 29 states from Alaska to Florida, California to New York, and 3 locations in Canada. For an indie band that has yet to tour outside of Humboldt County and has only been on music streaming platforms for just over a year, this is a huge accomplishment.

The Critics formed two years ago when 2 brothers and their best friends found their passion in the family music room. They started with covering their favorite bands, but quickly turned to creating their own original sound. Their music influences include Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, and The Strokes to name a few.  All band members contribute to songwriting by collaborating on song ideas and/or writing their individual parts with Sergio writing all lyrics for their current album. This debut album also features Ryan Martin on Bass for 6 of the tracks.

While the band was in their early stages, their parents recognized that the boys had talent and a passion to do something with their music. Joshua’s parents sought out Aaron Souza with North Coast Music to teach Josh mixing and music production using ProTools. The Critics have recorded all their songs at Souza’s studio with Souza being the sound engineer and Josh, now age 15, mixing and producing their music.

You can listen to The Critics everywhere that streams music.
