Just a typical night, hour for dispatch, EPD and other first responders

About 15 minutes ago,  I had called about "Ginger" who had been casing the alley and screaming since midnight. This is between 5th and 6th on N. Dispatch was handling a 911 call when I called.

Around 3:45 a.m., I heard police cars at 1335 6th Street Eureka. I hear voices.

"What is it?", I heard a police officer say.

Heard female voice, "Please, please", " Owwww", "Aaaargh", Vomiting.

You guys called 911? police officer asked. I don't know if this is the same 911 call or a different 911 call.

3:56 a.m. Humboldt Bay Fire arrives. EPD briefs Humboldt Bay Fire. 3:59 a.m. City Ambulance arrives.

While I was talking to EPD Sgt. Eddie Wilson, the boyfriend came out with a bag. The woman was being medically attended to by first responders. This is someone young and healthy, to my knowledge.

This is the second time, Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance have been at this apartment. Both times early a.m. I am not going to list the apartment number since it ended up being a medical call.

There have been two other times Humboldt Bay and City Ambulance have been here for a different apartment. These are just four calls that I  have witnessed since Oct 2019.

When I lived on 2nd Street in Eureka, fairly close to the Adorni and Ingomar Club, there was a house and on a regular basis, Humboldt Bay Fire would stop by and the ambulance.

This is affordable housing and lack of housing in Eureka. My neighbors who own a home next door have thanked me for my efforts to help keep the area safe. Every neighborhood I have lived in since I moved here improves in cleanliness and safety.

Four EPD police chiefs since I moved here and I am always grateful for EPD.

I have never seen it as bad as it has been in the last four years in Eureka.

In Eureka, many homes and offices are surrounded by apartment complexes where many residents are subsidized in some way for housing or connected with the County. Those of us that actually work are not preferred by many property management companies or landords. Those property management companies are not capitalists, they just want a government check instead of earning it.

The same property management companies and slumlords who don't care as long as that government check clears. How many of these properties are up to code? Permitted? You want to solve housing issues in Eureka and Humboldt, then reward those who follow the law and maintain their properties. Make choices that dont cost taxpayers and provide those who work decent, affordable housing.

This is what happens when a County relies on the government for most of the economy instead of encouraging private industry. Who is being paid during this shelter in place and whose ability to earn income is being affected? Who pays for the costs of these medical calls?
