Terms of the agreement between Dean Lotter and City of Eureka will not be public until 7 days
In his report, Eureka City Attorney Robert Black said:
There were negotiations between lawyers for the City of Eureka and Dean Lotter. "The terms of the agreement reached will not be public until 7 days," said Mr. Black Several people have to sign off on the document. "Eventually it will become a public document." Mr. Black called it "a parting of the ways" between the City Manager and the City of Eureka.
We will find out if my hunch about Lotter hiring Ms. Cyndy Day-Wilson was correct.
There was one comment by Ms. Sousa. She expressed concern about the Eureka City Council making " a move of this magnitude" when members of the public cannot come to City Hall to speak about this issue.
Ms. Sousa was complimentary about Lotter. She said that "he was shown to the door with no explaination to the public." She asked about the financial cost to the taxpayers, the cost of the headhunter and "how much of the contract will the taxpayers be responsible for?"
City of Eureka sent out this press release at 5 p.m.:
At a Special Open Session, Eureka City Council acted to accept the resignation of Former City Manager Dean Lotter and authorize the Mayor to execute a resignation agreement. Mr. Lotter’s resignation is effective immediately.
“We are appreciative for the work that Mr. Lotter performed during his tenure and the City Council wishes him success in his future pursuits,” Mayor Seaman said.
Based on the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA), which allows the former employee 7 days to revoke the agreement, the final agreement will not be available until 7 days from the date of Mr. Lotter’s signature.
The city’s interim leadership plans, as announced previously, will remain in full effect until further notice. The process and timeline for selecting a new permanent City Manager will be announced at a later date.
