Hair salons are Stage Two, not phase 3, incorrect info and messing with people's livelihoods

Dr. Teresa Frankovich, Humboldt County Health Officer thinks she knows better than the state. Some PIOs for the Humboldt County Joint Center need to read their own press releases. Different County staff are acting as PIOs. Meriah Miracle works for the Department of Public Health.

Munwela was proactive and submitted her plan before 8 a.m.this Thursday, the deadline in the JIC issued press release. She did this before the statewide press release on hair salons and barbers was issued. So she would be ready when she was allowed to reopen.

Now she is being told she has to wait after this 8 a.m. Thursday deadline when the County press release says hair salons are Stage Two? Meriah Miracle incorrectly states that she is in Phase 3. This is just one example of the incompetent, inaccurate, confusing messaging in Humboldt regarding COVID 19.

The best and accurate information in Humboldt is from HCSO PIO Samantha Karges and EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell.

"Hair salons and barber shops, which California Governor Gavin Newsom moved into Stage Two today, involve higher risk to both employees and customers. These businesses can submit a Reopening Plan beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, but they will be reviewed after those deemed lower risk."

"The state today produced guidance for hair salons and barber shops to operate with significant modifications in place, including limiting services to those that can be provided with both the worker and customer wearing facial coverings at all times. “We were pleased to see the state move these services into Stage Two where we can follow local conditions to determine the timing of reopening,” Dr. Frankovich said. “We’ve been working to reopen lower-risk retail businesses and added restaurants just this week.
Higher-risk businesses like hair salons and barber shops are next in line for review and certification.”

Munwela's business plans meets the state guidelines.

"Under the new guidance to reopen, salons and barbers must:

Implement measures to ensure physical distancing of at least six feet between and among workers and customers, except when providing haircutting and other close contact services.Provide temperature and/or symptom screenings for all workers at the beginning of their shift and any vendors, contractors, or other workers entering the establishment.Encourage workers and customers who are sick or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 to stay home.Screen customers upon arrival and be prepared to cancel or reschedule customers who indicate they have any signs of illness.Require workers and customers to use face coverings during the entire haircutting and other close contact hair services."
