"I’m going to be real with you—I know this is a big deal to you because it is happening where you live, but we are in the middle of a major crisis of unknown prolonged duration that is likely to get worse before it gets better. "

I did two posts on tenants where I live violating the shelter in place order and that did lead to positive action.

The good news is that my persistence led to property management taking action and sending out a letter to all tenants. They did that because Eureka City Code Enforcement contacted them. Code Enforcement did that because I called the tip line more than once, each time there was a violation. This despite being threatened and stalked by the rule breakers. Most of all, I know that code enforcement did it quickly because of EPD Chief Steve Watson. He has put up with me calling him, emailing him and following up. I am one of many people demanding his time.

Chief Watson gave some good advice and I am sharing it because we all need to hear it and be patient with our law enforcement, city officials and particularly County Public Health employees.

In no way has Chief Watson dismissed my concerns or what I face. He is still working with me to address the situation.

"John, in response to your last complaint Code Enforcement reached out to the property manager who will send them warning notices.  I’m going to be real with you—I know this is a big deal to you because it is happening where you live, but we are in the middle of a major crisis of unknown prolonged duration that is likely to get worse before it gets better.  We’ll be okay but department’s across the country are having to prioritize their activities while also trying to minimize risks to officers (so we still have officers and dispatchers available for emergencies and essential services).  Calls that can be handled by phone are being done so that way, for instance. We are focusing first on felonies, serious and in progress crimes, proactive security check patrols, and emergency calls along with managing the homeless situation.  Code enforcement only has 1 or 2 officers available to follow-up with Shelter in Place order violations/complaints and are prioritizing the order in which these are handled—we’re focusing on the most serious violations out of necessity. "
